Brief Review on Alzheimer Disease


Alzheimer Disease is also known as senile dementia, which is a progressive degenerative disease of the central system and often occurs in old age. Its disease course is chronic and irreversible and it is mainly characterized by intellectual damages.
This disease is called as early Alzheimer Disease if it occurs before 65 years old; it will be called as Alzheimer Disease if it occurs after 65 years old.
In clinic, it is characterized by disorder of memory, aphasia, disorder of execution function, changes of personality and behavior and other comprehensive performance of dementia. However, its causes remain unknown.

Causes of Alzheimer Disease

Alzheimer Disease is a complicate heterogeneous disease with unclear causes, which is often caused by multiple factors, such as hereditary factor, neurotransmitter, immunological factors and environmental factors.

1. Family history
Genetic studies confirm that this disease may be caused by autosomal dominant gene. It can be seen that dementia is related to hereditary.

2. Some physical diseases
Some diseases that people suffer from also may cause Alzheimer Disease, such as thyroid diseases, autoimmune disease and epilepsy. People who have the history of hypothyroidism have higher risk of this disease. History of depression, especially history of senile depression is the risk factor of this disease.

3. Head trauma
Head trauma refers to head injuries accompanied by disorder of consciousness. Clinical and epidemiological studies suggest that serious traumas may be one causes of Alzheimer Disease. 

4. Others
Progressive failure of immune system, weakness of detoxification functions, chronic virus infection, as well as widowed, living alone, financial difficulty, bumpy life and other social physical factors can be predisposing factors.

Although Alzheimer Disease remains unclear until now, but it is a progressive disease and shall be treated in the early period of onset.
