Examinations for Cerebral Palsy
Parents can judge if their children suffer from cerebral palsy by using the following methods in addition to symptoms:



 1. Imaging examinations on head

MRI ( Magnetic Resornance Angiography)

With no radiation injuries to patients and characteristics of multiple directions slicing layer and multi-parameter imaging, it can more accurately display the lesion parts, scope and histologic characteristics so it is the preferred method in finding lesions of internal structure of brain. Doctors can make judgments according to the results of MRI.

 Brain CT

It is mainly used for clarifying if there exit organic lesion and lesion parts. Common abnormalities include generalized cerebral atrophy, encephalomalacia and dysplasia of white matter. For some cases, it can be used for suggesting causes, such as congenital brain malformations and intrauterine infection.

Examinations of heredity metabolize and clotting mechanism

Examinations of heredity metabolize and clotting mechanism are better evidence. Heredity metabolize is not a routine examination item.
MRI and CT are the most influential evidence. Considering that MRI has higher resolution, so it is better than CT in etiologic diagnosis.

2. Examinations related to complications of cerebral palsy

EEG

Patients with a history of epilepsy shall conduct EEG examinations but it will not be taken as the regular examination item in etiologic diagnosis of cerebral palsy.

If patients have mental retardation, vision and language disorder

If patients are accompanied by symptoms above, patients shall conduct relevant examinations of intelligence/developmental quotient and vision and auditory sensation against existing problems.
Based on symptoms and relevant examination results, doctors can make judgment.
